The In-between

Sunset in Crescent City CA

The neither here, nor there.

That place we inhabit during travel. Really it’s the physical road. That magnificent delineated space that takes you from HERE to THERE. That space where it feels like you are standing still, yet there is all this movement swirling around you. Smudges of color. The sky being the constant. The tree line. The edge of the mountain range.

The horizon out there in the distance, beaconing you to continue your journey foreward.

There are other in-between times. Those of the sun rising and the sun setting. The color that splashes out along the horizon. The meeting of sun and earth. Of day and night. Of nature. Some creatures awaken while others go to sleep.

This is a magical time.

I find myself in this space now. I have been here for a while, though now highlighted by seven weeks in the desert followed by an extended road trip home. My in-between is an imaginary road where I see my future self on the horizon and where I have been clicking by like mileposts behind me.

At times I wish my path were as clear as a freeway rather than like feeling my way through the dark. My intuition is my map… that inner guidance system that each of us has. I’ve found that gut feeling is always the best route to take even if it tends to contain blind spots and off the beaten path roads. Those places are always where the best treasures are found… those spots others tend to steer clear of.

Where has your inner guidance system taken you lately?
Where have you programmed it to go?

This time between the Autumn Equinox and tonight’s New Moon in Libra is the perfect time to assess your route, make course corrections, and forge ahead.

What are those things that aren’t working any more? Is it time to let go of things, relationships? Or maybe it’s that vision of your future self that needs correcting? What is the full moon highlighting for you?

Yesterday, I created a list for the next three months. Things to accomplish at the office, for my metaphysical healing practice, for Sweetness Herbal, as well as for my personal life. They include things like the realization that I hold space for others, babies in utero talk to me and perhaps it’s time to highlight that, create a mullein blossom salve for the throat chakra, bring a ladder to the office to hang art and these awesome streamers purchased at Tail of the Yak in Oakland on the road trip home.

What is on your list for this new season?

I’d also love to hear about your journey to this place and time and what changes you are setting in motion as we moved forward into the great of unknown of Autumn.

Wishing you many treasures… xoxo, s

Bring It, Universe!

Muddy playa feet

I smiled a lot today. I like smiling. In fact, it’s not just today. I have smiled more in the past two weeks then I can remember smiling in a while.

There have also been some great laughs… pure, true, and deep belly laughs. Laughing until I almost peed my pants. I really can’t remember the last time I smiled and laughed so wholeheartedly.

It was an unexpected day… with rain, thunder, lightning, and hail in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. No vehicles drive when this happens. Instead either the soles of your shoes clop up with mud or you go barefoot with squishy mud between your toes.

At the beginning of July, I gave it up to the Universe to bring what ever it wanted into my life. I did this in regard to a certain energy healing training hoping that the money to attend would appear. Instead, the Universe brought me two contract job offers to work at Burning Man during the same time as the training. I accepted the longer one 10 days prior to my start date having faith that it was the right thing to do.

Tomorrow, I will have been in the beautiful Black Rock Desert for two weeks. While I left behind my office, I brought my work. Location independence hadn’t even seemed like a possibility a year ago.

On the journey here, we were lying in the grass in Cedarville, CA watching the clouds roll by while the puppy enjoyed running around. I couldn’t remember the last time I watched the clouds roll by but know that growing up it was something I did a lot. It was magic.

A couple nights ago, I saw the Milky Way.

Today, I rode my bike to a secret office location so that I could work on my business (Hi!).

All these things throw me back to visceral memories of my childhood.

I needed to experience these things.

My soul needed to experience these things.

It is felt so deeply that my eyes fill with tears.

All these experiences will inform the future of my life and my business. All from having faith in the Universe. By following the signs and the gut feelings.

What of life’s simple pleasures are you missing?

What are those things that you don’t even know that you are missing?

Do you remember the last time you watched the clouds pass overhead?

When did you last walk barefoot?

And, how about the stars… when was the last time you saw the night sky unhindered by the city lights?

I Create {Sacral Chakra}

I Create | Sacral Chakra

Today we are exploring the Sacral or second chakra located in the belly below your navel. This is the place where creativity and passion spark, flame, and burn. It is also where we have the capacity to feel things deeply.

When this chakra is blocked, there is a tendency to be detached from those things that create happiness or joy in your life. Your excitement, passion, and flame diminish.

It is easy to get back in touch with your creativity and passion though a daily conscious practice or ritual is key. Connect your Root {1st} Chakra to the Earth energy described last week. The drop your consciousness down into your Sacral Chakra and start to ask…

“What creates passion in my life?”
“Where can I add more creativity in my daily life?”
“What can I create today that brings me in touch with my humanity?”

Start each day by acknowledging “I Create”.

By being in this present moment and taking personal responsibility for the life you create daily, there is nothing that you can’t accomplish.

I am Safe {Root Chakra}

You are Safe | I am Safe | Root Chakra

I am starting an educational series on the major chakras as they are the core of the human energetic system and the foundation of much of the work I do with clients.

Today, I am tapping into the Root Chakra, the first chakra at the base of your spine. It’s mantra is “I am safe” and is associated with our ancestral DNA, our first family, our foundations.

It’s the chakra that sends energetic roots down into the Earth to ground our energetic systems, our human bodies, and our souls in to this Earth plane. From here our foundations are built.

Walk barefoot in the grass and feel the energetic waves of the Earth’s energy enter your body through the soul’s of your feet.

As we fully enter summer, which of your foundations need shoring up? In which areas of your life can you slow down and surrender to the summer rhythm?

Hold on to that first answer and create that shift for yourself.

Today and everyday know that You are SAFE.

Roots of Energy Medicine: Hydro-cleansing

Hydro-cleansing

A month from now, I will be on the banks of the Youghiogheny River in the heart of Appalachia with one of my favorite people, Conrad Hamather. Together, we will be teaching a group of brilliant souls to go beyond their human existence by rooting in Earth energy and connecting to their divinity at the Roots of Energy Medicine Retreat.

This is the first journal entry in a series this month highlighting different aspects of our weekend retreat. Conrad writes about his ritual of hydro-cleansing, bathing in the river which is incorporated into our weekend. I was taken back by the stillness created in the core of my being while reading his descriptive narrative. This stillness lives at the core of this retreat that we have created for you.

I typically surrender to each day’s long summer journey submerged deep in the Youghiogheny River; floating, listening and bathing.

I use the term bathing as a metaphor but also an action. The history of bathing is forever long, stemming back to the beginning of light. We bathed to be clean, to purify, and to become whole again. A modern chore we take for granted today, though when deep in the raw power of the source, it becomes something of a spiritual presence.

The River is an important place to hold space, to ground oneself and to reflect upon what was, what will be, but most importantly of what is happening presently, between yourself and that sanctity of the moving water. The scent of the living body of water, stripping away the day, creating the ‘new’ base of your body/soul at the setting of the sun is both mentally and physically cathartic.

A bar of soap on a rope with a stick to keep it afloat always helps seal the deal, a two-fold moment and conservation in water as well. Such as the photo I snapped last night, post cleanse, a piece of life and a peace of mind.

I can’t help but ask…

What does your ideal bathing ritual look like?

What things do you do in your life to create this sense of stillness?

so much love… xoxo, s
