Harness the Power of the Moon’s Phases, Part 2

Ganesh New Moon Ritual

As part of the Luminosity Mentoring Program, the lunar phases are followed to harness this gorgeous natural cycle that is a part of living on planet Earth. Two weeks ago, I talked about how the Full Moon is used to release those things that are no longer working for you by creating a list and burning it.

At the New Moon, intentions are set of those things that you want to get accomplished in the upcoming four weeks or plans that you want to set into motion. Like the ritual at the Full Moon, a list is created. My practice includes a couple minutes of meditation and writing the list in Evernote so that it does’t get lost in the shuffle between the apartment and the office.

The New Moon Intention list would also be great hand written with drawings or as a vision board collage. Add whatever surround feels right to you. That could be your favorite music, a lit candle, incense.

Tonight/early tomorrow is the Cancer New Moon at 1:08am PT/4:08am ET/9:08am BST.

This New Moon is a great time to affirm and re-affirm what you want more of in your life. Add more of what makes you happy. Add more entertaining at home. Add more activities that nurture your heart, soul, and body.

What intentions are you setting for the next four weeks ending on July 26?

My intentions include:

  • Planning out the remaining six months of 2014 in order to give my programs and courses space to expand and grow
  • Surrendering to the rhythm of Summer
  • Seeing friends that I have not seen in what is feeling like forever
  • Doing things I wouldn’t ‘normally’ do (mid-day movie, anyone?)
  • Visit places that have been on my bucket list for a decade (Neah Bay)
  • Restorative Yoga
  • Sussing out a volunteer gig

Tell me about your intentions in the comments below.

love + light to you!  xoxo, s

Encompassing Light

Hsi Lai Temple - Being Light

Trusting that this is the perfect time to post this new guided meditation. I had hoped to push it out into the world last week while we were in Los Angeles visiting friends and family. It seems that I always underestimate the fullness of those trips and driving from one end of LA to the other.

The most brilliant part of these five days away was the synchronicity of just about every happening and the themes, validations, and discoveries made. There is no accident to who you see and don’t see on these kinds of trips. There is an inherent feeling of magic.

This is especially highlighted when your partner talks about stalking Kogi, the Korean-Mexican fusion food truck, and then is shows up in Whittier California because Maps gave us the wrong directions. At that point the only answer is to stand in line for 20 minutes in order to taste the gasp inducing cuisine.

And then there was the visit to the Hsi Lai Temple fit in during a tour of my partner’s family’s homes and history.

Leading up to this trip, I had been meditating every day. Not for long periods of time, just consistently.

More magic happens when I meditate.

With that I give you the Coptic Chakra Meditation that was born out of client work.

This guided meditation highlights the major and minor chakras by infusing them with All-Encompassing Light and releasing those things that are no longer serving areas of your life.

I challenge you to listen to this meditation everyday for a week.

Report back any changes or shifts or magic experienced.

And remember… YOU are Magic.

Harness the Power of the Moon’s Phases, Part 1

Moon Phases Tides

“Without the moon, we would not have the ocean.”

Or at least not as we know it now. Without the moon, the tides would still occur due to the sun’s gravitational pull but they would be lower and more infrequent. As a one-time fledgling surfer who has the hope and the surfboard to one day surf again, this is just plain sad.

That quote came from a former mentee’s partner in passing while talking about the work they were doing in the Luminosity Mentoring Program. It struck my mentee and it struck me when I heard it.

And the most curious part is that timing meetings with the New and Full Moon was a last minute decision after a friend gave me a 2014 phases of the moon calendar two weeks before the mentoring program started in March. But it just clicked. It was the missing piece. And I was open to it.

Getting back to the ocean, tides add drag to the velocity of the Earth’s rotation. The most impactful, however, would be that our days would shorten by 6 hours without the moon. This fact just struck me as crazy talk in a time when everyone seems to be looking for more hours in the day. And the real clincher to the importance of the moon is that the tilt of the Earth’s axis would be effected by the gravitational pull of the sun and other planets without the moon and swing out of it’s 23.5 degree sweet spot.

I am talking about the Moon and it’s phases because there is a power there that in modern society we seem to have forgotten. This was highlighted when I was asked by a potential male client if I work with men. {I do work with men.} But it seemed that all my talk about following the cycle of the moon came across as menstrual cycles.

Before electricity, humanity lived by the moon. We tracked time, seasons, planted crops, hunted, and built ancient monumental structures that tracked the moon’s progress throughout the year. It was that important. Today New and Full Moons have religious or cultural significance to folks around the world including the Chinese, Muslims, Hindus, and Jews.

The Full Moon is a great time to release things that are no longer working for you. That thing could be a way of being, emotional reaction, or even a physical thing that is holding you back from achieving intentions or goals that you have set for yourself.

A great way to release these unwanted things or ways of being is to write it down on a piece of paper and burn it as close to the Full Moon as possible. On the West Coast, the Moon is at it’s fullest at 9:11pm tonight with it’s degree being 22 degrees Sagittarius for those astrology geeks out there.

My go-to covert astrologer, Elizabeth Knowles, filled me in on the those unseen energies we are all feeling.

Pluto and Mars are forming a square that is very tense. It is the same square we had back in late December/January before Mars went retrograde so there will be another look at issues that came up then and the possibility for a resolution or spring to action. You will want to avoid getting in fights and/or burning bridges, unless bridges need to be burned. It is best to stay as “pure” as possible to avoid other’s negative vibes being projected onto us.

Venus and Saturn will be making an opposition. This isn’t necessarily “bad” but it’s not much fun. Sagittarius likes fun! And the moon is in Sagittarius now. So situations can just be very serious. It is the stern parent teaching the child, not particularly affectionate but not without love. It is time for duty over indulgence.

There are some nice things too! The moon will first make a nice trine to Uranus before becoming exactly full. This brings nice surprises and excitement!

So looking back to those things or way of beings no longer working for you that you want to release.

  • Are there any themes that emerge for you from December/January that have re-emerged this week?
  • How can you have more fun while still pushing your intentions and goals forward?
  • Are your goals and intentions aligned with fun, joy, and happiness?

In two weeks, we will be talking about the New Moon and using it’s power to set intentions and goals.

Until next time, loves… xoxoxo, s

Behind the Veil

Behind the Veil - Fantastic Mr. Fox

I had thought that this entry would be posted last week but the Universe had other plans. I trust a lot in the mystical ways of the Universe’s divine timing these days. Partly, it’s the only thing to depend on.

At the beginning of May, I ran into a friend at a party who commented on how full my schedule must be as I had just rented my very own office space. She was excited for me. And then I let her in on a little secret, one that I am very open about in person with friends but may not have publicly stated:

I chose to rent an office rather than pay myself.

And it has been the best decision. In part, because now I have a room of my own and it’s importance is not lost on me.

Enter stage left
Two weeks ago, I received a call late at night from someone I know well who offered me a job working as their assistant on a part-time temporary basis. My immediate response was a resounding yes. I was going out of town and we agreed to meet the beginning of the following week.

Over the next 24 hours, my brain felt like it was working overtime. This after an experience with a healer the weekend before in which I felt my brain go silent. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing a quiet brain can be. This opportunity had the negative chatter going. But I chose to trust the path my soul thought as right.

We met last Tuesday. It felt really good in that I would work for them for three days a week and for my own practice the other two days. From my end it also felt very temporary as I was filling in until a permanent solution was found. I was like the pitch hitter or relief pitcher.

I was set to start this past Monday.

But the Friday before I got a call in which I was un-hired. It took a little while to understand what was going on during the call as it was put in terms of this situation was not right for me in a laundry list of ways. So it wasn’t until the third time through that I realized that this wasn’t a conversation that we were having.

I was told that I wasn’t really excited about the job and that I would feel relieved once this call was over.

I did not feel relieved.

And in that feeling realized just how excited I had been about this opportunity. I realized how excited I had been in the number of folks I had already told.

The gifts
In the aftermath, I gave myself until Saturday morning to basically grieve. I was crying so grief was definitely involved. I am still unsure why. But we very much have a pick-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps kind of mentality in our house. Only one night surged up on the sofa watching the Fantastic Mr. Fox is allowed.

Sunday brought a rush Sweetness Herbal order from a friend for a retreat that starts today. I was able to create a gift set and mail it to her on Monday for Wednesday delivery.

A photo posted of part of the shipment prompted someone else to contact me about making gift sets in the future for her retreats.

And, today, I have spent holding space for a former client who is participating in a potentially life-changing workshop today and for a friend who had surgery as a result of a bicycle/car collision last night. And being present with another friend, their partner. I am in their living room writing this.

I also feel much more rooted in my practice, in the work that I am doing in the world. A big part of what I love about the work that I do is the relationships that have been created and formed and nurtured. I love seeing the journey, your journey.

It’s not always pretty or clear-cut but it is human. And being human is one of the greatest gifts that we could ever receive.

Until next time…

always yours, s

Newness

This month I moved into my very own office in the Securities Building in downtown Seattle. The office feels light and fresh like a breath of fresh air. The space was welcomed in with warmth and love during a three day open house. It was such a gift.

I would love for you to welcome in this new space with me. You can do this by thinking and sending whatever type of good vibe that feels right to you.

Until next week… so much love… xoxo, s
