Happy Lunar New Year of the Horse

Horseback riding lessons at a young age

Horseback riding lessons in my ultra-youth

Last year, my post about the lunar new year became my last post of 2013. In hindsight, this makes so much sense as I deeply entered the metamorphosis of shedding skin and not just by reducing time at my then day job but by eliminating it all together along with extraneous bits that were no longer serving me.

I cocooned, became ultra-insular, released a bunch of mind-numbing falsehoods about my self, dove deep and came to the heart of my work. This in-between time from where I was to where I am going is full of excitement (this could also be read as anxiety). There is a waiting. A time of building while seeing a very full future of everything that I have been working towards over the past ten years coming to fruition.

Before starting any research on this lunar new year of the wooden horse (because I love research!), I had felt a lot of forward momentum… like the year will be like a racehorse running it’s heart out from start to finish. You see horses were featured very prominently in my childhood… so this year feel like home.

My parents moved us to the middle-of-nowhere Maryland when I was six where horseback riding lessons became a weekly occurrence. At some point shortly thereafter, my dad started buying thoroughbred racehorses to race and breed. Trips to the racetrack were a family activity from a very early age as was gambling. And, whereas, neither feature prominently now, the beauty of a horse doing what it loves to do… run… can bring tears to my eyes. They are all about forward momentum. Forging ahead. Being true to their nature. The things of legend and magic.

And, so, with that image in my mind’s eye, I am looking forward to the bounty that awaits this year in which the focus is forging ahead as a centered being in order to help others clarify and birth their magic in to this world.

In what part of your life are you forging ahead? What bits of your true nature are you showing the world? What magical thing can you bring into your life that brightens every day?

The year of the snake helped me to unearth much of my true nature that I had forgotten and discover it anew to share with others. What did shedding all that skin reveal for you?

The Hummingbird’s Daughter

The Hummingbird's Daughter

Recommended by a co-worker at Union Center for Healing, The Hummingbird’s Daughter by Luis Alberto Urrea was the first book read post-day job. Set in Mexico outside of Alamos in the 1880s, Urrea tells the magical tale of a girl who becomes a healer and gives a glimpse into the training of curanderas, traditional healers or shamans found in the United States or Latin America. This book is a delightful read that speaks to the resilience of the human condition.

The follow-up, Queen of America, is on it’s way as I post.

Traumatic past life loss of children + fertility

It occurred to me last week that it is possible that there is a connection between past life traumatic loss of children and the grief associated with such a loss that comes through into a person’s current lifetime that can manifest in fertility issues.

I have come to this hypothesis after another fertility client presented with a traumatic past life loss of her children.

The session started with a stuck 1st chakra. It was so blocked that I couldn’t read it so we started with the earth energy grounding meditation during which I removed a great deal of low frequency energy from the root chakra area.

By the time the earth energy had moved through her body, the 1st chakra started to move and I was immediately drawn to her legs for an energetic sweep. This entails a sweeping motion with the hands a couple inches above the body within the first layer of the auric field. The legs are governed by the 1st chakra so the fact that the energy was stagnant was not surprising.

As I moved down her legs, the feet were calling to me — especially the right foot where there was a tremendous amount of grief. I dove in… to a past life where she had been the mother of eleven children during WWI. All of these children died in a bomb blast with her being the only survivor with an injury to her right foot. This is where all the grief from that life had decided to live during this lifetime. As this energy was released, there was an immense amount of tingling in my hands moving up my arms to my 4th (heart) chakra. The feeling of overwhelming grief and heartache flooded in. Tears were running down both our faces as I told her the story.

I asked my client to release the remaining grief; to let the emotion flow through her and out. Deep breaths in and on the exhale release it all.

And what is really fascinating is that the little one she is waiting to conceive (her spirit baby) is the soul of one of the eleven that was lost in this previous lifetime.

During my own fertility quest, my now mentor cleared three past lives during a session that were full of traumatic deaths for children. One being during the Roman era where a Roman guard brutally murdered my baby son in front of me before killing me and another life where I was in charge of rescuing the children from a space colony but the door to the capsule that housed the children closed before I was ensconced inside and the enemy blew them up.

According to abundance theory, clearing one’s energetic system or living space of stagnant energy allows for something new to come in. I am fascinated by this idea in relation to one’s fertility journey. Does the clearing of past life grief make way for conception to occur or, in my case, lead to a whole new career?

What do you feel you need to clear in order to move into the new?

p.s. So grateful for my client’s permission to share events that occurred during a session.

I offer 45-minute phone and Skype sessions for questions about spirit babies and energetic blocks to conception or for those who want to deepen their relationship with theirs. Spirit Baby Sessions can be booked here: https://calendly.com/srl

What makes you happy?

A man very clear about his happy place… Bob Ross and his “beautiful, beautiful mountains”

Over the past three months, I have been coming out of a shell created by three years of consecutive burn-out. The most surprising thing I’ve discovered that I hadn’t been doing things that made me happy without purpose. I term it that way as there was an intuitive pull and a lightness of being to many things I was committed to during that time but they were all about an end goal rather than the sheer bliss of happiness just for the sake of being happy.

While I was working a 40-hour a week day job, seeing clients on Sundays, and taking business + energy medicine courses from Marie Forleo, Erika Lyremark, and Marie Manuchehri, I constricted my circle to focus my energy on the end goal of helping folks live the life they were meant to live rather than the life they thought they ought to be living. There wasn’t much blissed-out happiness for me.

I had stopped reading entirely months prior to the end of my day job and focused my attention exclusively on streaming episodes of Gossip Girl on Netflix to get me through to the finish. There hadn’t been a movie that I had wanted to see in, like, forever as I had no band-width to pay any attention to coming attractions. And art museums had begun to feel like a thing of the past… a piece of a former life when I was in an art museum daily.

So the past three months have been full of cocooning, following that thread of inspiration (the intuitive pull) wherever it leads, and preparing for the coming year that feels larger than large. inspiration has led me to reading books for fun and discovering that I love historical fiction as I am more of a non-fiction girl, watching documentaries on fascinating people and places, seeing art and becoming a member of the Seattle Art Museum, connecting with folks dear to my heart, and eating at my favorite places.

What I missed most in those three years of being in the pit of burn-out was the way my eyes would do a dance of delight when a surface struck their fancy. Like, really, wow. The feeling blows me away.

Doing what makes me happy is the root of my focus in 2014. It’s the things that make life worth living. Without the happy places there is no me to help folks realize their goals and dreams. And this, it turns out, is my ultimate happy place.

This Present Moment

I am 2 hours and 54 minutes into my 4th 24-hour cycle of being sick in my biscuit (aka bed). It has been years and years since a virus has taken me out like this… when the only thing you can do is be in the present moment.

On Sunday, it was about just going to bed.

Monday brought this amazing and simple tomato soup non-recipe into our lives… my person made it and we already had all the ingredients at home except the onion. Yesterday, I added black-eyed peas to it for lunch and today also added rice.

Yesterday, the present moment was, like, you need to take a mustard bath ASAP. And, no, I’ve never taken one before but my body was all about creating a temperature that was inhospitable to whatever virus has taken up residence. Mustard baths are used to detox the body and in the treatment of  respiratory illnesses. The mustard is warming to the body; opening pores and the circulatory system to rid the body of toxins.

Thanks to the internet, I readily found a recipe (baking soda, powered mustard, plus some essential oils), had everything in-house, mixed it together, and took a bath. I immediately felt better and then worse, and stayed in my biscuit for the rest of the day.

And today brought about wearing pants. Actual, honest to god, pants. I had been wearing pajama pants for the last two days but today… I just could’t do it for another day in a row.

There were also conversations with three friends (two also fighting viruses, one not) and writing this post about just being in the present moment. Because when in the present moment, that intuitive pull (aka gut feeling, intuition) is stronger making it that much easier to follow the thread that leads to your needs, wants, and desires in which your individual life blooms.

What has your gut feeling been telling you to do that you’ve been ignoring?

Mine has been telling me to write. Hence the upside to being sick as my brain has checked out and cannot question anything.

I’d love to read your response in the comments below.
